Our flying field is located in Offley, down a short lane next to a very handy pub, The Red Lion, where members usually retire after an afternoon's flying for some relaxation and a little conviviality (as well as the odd beer or two)!

The pictures show aerial views of the field. It's 5 1/2 acres in size, which means there's plenty of room. There are 3 runways, catering for most wind directions, with 2 pit areas set aside for preparation (and occasional repair) of our models. The picture on the right was taken in 1988, by Richard Allen, from an R/C model.

Originally, the site was a sewage farm and had been derelict for many years. As you can see from the picture, there is no evidence of its previous use. 20 years of hard work by the members has turned it into an enviable location - one that the club owns outright. We have 3 runways, and can operate with almost all wind directions. It's probably one of the best locations in the country and we are justifiably proud of it.

We have a clubhouse, where we make tea and coffee and in which we shelter during the winter when the weather gets really too cold or windy to fly. The clouds in the picture were only added to dramatise the setting. Normally, it's very sunny!

Being on the top of a hill, and probably one of the highest places in Hertfordshire (that's not saying much), there's generally a little wind to assist in take-offs and landings. Sometimes the trees near the field tend to lean out and grab passing models, though that seems to be reasonably infrequent.
